How To Stay Safe In The Sun
Nothing can beat playing outside with friends and family on lazy weekends in the summer! Although, sun light is good for you, too much exposure can result in tanning, skin burn, aging and even cancer. So, protect yourself from harmful ultra violet rays emitted by the sun. Here are some tips to stay safe in the sun:
1. Avoid going out in the peak times
The best way to protect yourself from the sun rays is to limit your time outside. Avoid going out in peak sun hours i.e., between 10 A.M. to 3 A.M. If you need to go out then make sure to cover yourself properly. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes. Wear a wide brimmed hat or take a scarf to cover your face, neck, ears, and hair. And yes, don’t forget to apply sunscreen!
2. Apply sunscreen
Sunscreen is a body lotion that helps to keep your skin safe from harmful UV radiations. Make sure to choose a sun screen with SPF 15 or more and apply it before 30 minutes of going out in the sun. Apply it on your neck, back, face, tips of your ears, arms, and your feet too. Choose a “broad spectrum” sunscreen that offers protection against both UVA and UVB rays. Check the label properly to know how often to apply. Apply sunscreen at least every 2 hours, even if you’re using a water-resistant sunscreen. Apply sunscreen more often if you’re swimming. Make sure to read label to know how often you can apply that sunscreen.
3. Drink plenty of water
Make sure to drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. Dehydration and sunstroke can lead to various health issues; make sure to drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. If in case, you start feeling dizzy, sick or faint, consult with your doctor right away.
4. Do kids need protection from the sun?
Yes, definitely! Kids have very sensitive skin. So it’s necessary to take care of their skin properly. Make sure to apply sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher on their skin before taking them out in the sun. Use sunscreen on their skin, after consulting with your doctor. If your baby is below six months of age, it’s best not to take them in direct sunlight. You can also protect them from sun by covering them with protective clothing.
Be sure to think about your safety from sun every day, not just when you’re at the pool or the beach. Apply sunscreen regularly as it will help to reduce early skin aging and help you look younger. Plus, it will offer you protection against skin cancer.
