Signs of a Trustworthy Online Pharmacy
Are you trying to save money on your prescriptions? In addition to using a RX discount card, you may be considering buying your prescriptions online. In today’s digital world, shopping and comparing products online has never been easier. However, when it comes to buying prescriptions online, you need to take extra precautions. Some websites selling prescriptions could be unsafe and put your health in jeopardy.
When buying medicine online it’s important that you are doing it safely. To ensure you are purchasing your medications from a reputable website, make sure the website has the following things:
- Located in the United States – While a website may be offering your medication for a much cheaper price, do not purchase a prescription from a website located outside the U.S. If it’s located outside the U.S., it could be a scam. To protect your health and your personal information, only consider websites that are located and operating in the U.S.
- Licensed by the state board of pharmacy where the website is operating – An illegitimate website will likely give you medicine that is fake, too strong or too weak, not appropriate for you or your condition, not FDA-approved, or expired. Therefore, you need to make sure the website is licensed by the state board of pharmacy where it is operating. You can visit the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP) website to determine if the website is a state-licensed pharmacy.
- Licensed pharmacist available to answer questions and provides contact information – A legitimate online pharmacy will have contact information, as well as a licensed pharmacist available to answer your questions. If you have any problems or questions, you should be able to talk to a person, rather than just an automated recording.
- Requires a prescription from your doctor for any prescription medications – Just like with a traditional pharmacy, such as Walgreens or CVS, a legitimate online pharmacy will require a prescription from your doctor for any prescription medications. If the pharmacy doesn’t require this, then that’s a sign that it’s unsafe and a scam.
